Organisers of Torquay’s Abbey Christmas event which was set to happen this festive season have announced it will no longer be going ahead.
The event planned to have a Santa’s grotto, stalls from small businesses and a range of food and drink stands at Torre Abbey. It would have also been the first time that a real ice rink would have been in the Bay for a generation.
But despite their efforts to make sure that it was as Covid safe as it could be, organisers Hive Events decided that it was best to postpone Abbey Christmas until 2021 for the safety of the residents in Torbay.
They have confirmed that those who had already purchased tickets will start to be refunded this week.

A spokesperson for Hive Events said: “We have over the last few months, created a magical event for Torbay, including the adaptions needed to make the event Covid safe and an enjoyable experience for everyone attending.
“However, the recent increase in the infection rate prior to the second lockdown, and the current and future Covid restrictions, has made it harder to deliver a safe and enjoyable environment.
“It is with regret, therefore, that we have taken the decision to postpone Abbey Christmas for 12 months.
“This decision has not been taken lightly, but we are sure that people will understand and endorse the reasons why the event cannot go ahead this year.
“We would like to thank the Torbay public for showing their support for the event and refunds will be made to everyone who has purchased tickets.”
If the anticipated event for next year goes ahead as planned, Hive Events are offering a 15% discount on early bird tickets using their code ABBEY2020.
Tickets for this will be on sale within the New Year.
