A new bakery has arrived in a Devon seaside town which had locals queuing down the street on its opening weekend.
Brown’s Kitchen Bakery is owned by mother daughter duo Liv and Louise Brown who have been making cakes and other baked goods for the locals of Sidmouth for quite some time which has resulted in a large Facebook following.
The bakery first opened its doors to customers on Thursday, November 19 which was widely anticipated by their loyal customers with many posting on Facebook that they are glad to see them make an appearance again on the high street after having a cafe last November.
Speaking to DevonLive, Louise said she was delighted with how the opening weekend panned out.
She said: “It went fantastic, it was absolutely incredible we sold out of everything.
“We had queues going down the street but luckily it’s quite a big street so there was plenty of space.
“My daughter and I run it together, but it’s really hers. We had a cafe in Sid mouth for nearly three years which we sold last November as Liv wanted to concentrate on the more cake side of the business. So we had a commercial unit first and then decided to open a shop.”
Before the bakery opened last week, the mum and daughter duo went to a lot of food markets in the area.
However, with the national lockdown measures meaning the duo could no longer go to these events, they decided that they would get a permanent building so that customers could still enjoy their delicious products.
At the start of the second lockdown, Brown’s Kitchen Bakery decided that they would offer delivery to their customers in the area which was extremely popular with orders constantly coming in.

Despite the lockdown, Louise stated that this was the best time to open their bakery in the town as they have had the support from local residents in the area.
Louise said: “I think that now it’s been a very good time to open because I think one thing about Sidmouth people is that they support local and independent businesses.
“Whilst there are no visitors at the moment, the locals are supporting us.
“Sidmouth wants to keep the high street vibrant and see new businesses and shops.
“There have been quite a few shops closing on the high street at the moment but we think that’s why the locals have been so supportive because we’ve taken the leap to open in lockdown.
Brown’s Kitchen Bakery is open Thursdays-Saturdays 2pm- 4pm. You can find them on Russell Street.
