When the entertainment industry stopped during the first lockdown, Exeter based magician Ozzy D decided to move his shows online which have now been seen by hundreds across the world.

Ozzy has been performing magic for over 30 years and performs at weddings, children’s parties, festivals, office events and school shows.

Before lockdown he performed all over the South West with the occasional show in London, however, now he’s doing virtual shows his work has spread.

We spoke to Ozzy who told us a bit more about how the pandemic has affected the entertainment industry and how he’s still planning on spreading some festive cheer this holiday.

He said: “I was a full-time entertainer but that had to change when lockdown happened so I went to doing it all virtually, it then was reaching people in Singapore, New Zealand and Dubai!

“I’m teaching kids magic online which is what I would normally be doing but the hospitality and entertainment industry at the moment is a no go. Although it did come back briefly, but then we went into another lockdown and it’s all gone to pot again.”

Ozzy will be performing as Father Christmas at West Point Marina as part of Devonshire County Christmas Market from 11 to 13 December.

Each visitor who goes into Santa’s grotto will receive a Christmas present, bag of candyfloss and a special Christmas Eve Christmas message with tickets costing £11.

“I’ll be giving virtual Santa calls along with Elf visit to doorsteps, so not elf on the shed but elf on the doorstep! an elf visit with magic.”

“It’s been hard this year, but the hardest part is that we can’t plan anything as we usually plan 3-4 months in advance. Even though we’re coming out of lockdown we have no plans in place so we’ve had to go virtual.”

Ozzy will be paying children a virtual santa visit

There are many occasions that Ozzy D can still do virtual events for people. He told us how there are online kids parties he is doing where all of the little ones can join in online so they don’t have to miss out on the fun.

Tell us the person, group or organisation you think should be named a Devon Live Covid Hero in our survey here.

Along with this, as many office parties are no longer going ahead because of the pandemic, he’s offering virtual shows for companies with a party package included for people to enjoy the event from the comfort of their own home.
