Rendells have confirmed that their ever-popular annual sale of Christmas poultry will be taking place later this month at Newton Abbot Market.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the auctioneers have said that selling arrangements will be different for the event on Monday, December 21.

Thanks to the cooperation of the Newton Abbot Community Transport Association, Devon Highways and Teignbridge District Council car parks and markets departments, buyers at the sale will be able to stand in the car parking area under the multi storey having inspected and chosen their perfect festive bird first.

A spokesperson for Rendells said: “This will then allow buyers to keep their social distance, instead of being crammed together in the pennage area.”

So far, the sale has already attracted over 400 entries. In a further measure to maintain social distancing, there will only be one auction, starting with chickens, ducks, geese and pheasants and followed by the turkeys.

The auctioneers are also offering a bidding service to allow buyers the opportunity to leave a bid without standing around.
