Part of the M5 was closed in both directions on New Year’s Day afternoon because of ice on the motorway.
All lanes between junctions 27 for Tiverton and 28 for Cullompton were held for about 15 minutes while the road was being re-gritted once again.
Highways England said a rolling road block was being conducted on both sides of the motorway while maintenance crews gritted the surfaces.
A post on traffic monitoring site Inrix said that the road was clear again at 1.25pm, but shortly afterwards said traffic was being held again.
The site’s latest update says that traffic has been released again.
Earlier today they closed the fast lanes on both sides of the M5 because of earlier snow fall. Then at 1.30pm they closed all three lanes in both directions to make the road safe due to ice on M5 Northbound between J28 A373 Station Road (Cullompton / Service Area) and J27 A361 (Tiverton).
