A patient at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has passed away after testing positive for coronavirus, it has been confirmed.

The death, recorded by NHS England today, occurred at the Exeter hospital yesterday (Friday) and brings the total number of patient who have died at RD&E after testing positive for Covid-19 to 73.

There have also been two new deaths recorded at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, among 22 in the wider South West region.

There have been no deaths recorded in Cornwall hospitals since November 19.

Across the UK, the hospital death toll has risen by 370 today, with 289 of these occurring in England.

An update from NHS England, released on Saturday afternoon, reports 289 people that “had tested positive for Covid-19 at the time of death” died in hospitals in England between 4pm on Thursday, November 26 and 4pm on Friday, November 27.

In the same 24-hour time frame, 19 other patients had tested positive for Covid, but did not have Covid mentioned on their death certificate, NHS England reports.
