Shelter is looking for a customer-focused individual with experience of developing complex enterprise level websites and web applications to join us as a Back-End Web Developer and help develop a range of new digital products.
It really is a great time to join our growing and evolving cross-functional digital team that spans front and back end development, UX/UI, content production, social media, analytics and more. We already do some brilliant design work that affects our digital offering, our helpline and our centres around the country. We also have lead responsibility for developing and implementing Shelter’s overall digital strategy and making sure best practice is applied to all online activities.
About the role
Working closely with the Lead Developer and Digital Product Manager and other teams within our digital department, your focus will be on developing products to support and enhance Shelter’s online, telephone and face-to-face services.
We’ll also rely on you to play your part in helping to keep the code base tidy and readable by all, not to mention contribute to Shelter’s digital strategy in line with our strategic goals, aims, vision and values. Developing ideas and new products, performing updates and fixes, taking part in code reviews and advising on the use of new technologies and platforms, transactional processes, security, and data integration – all are aspects of this challenging, interesting and varied role.
Key to your success will be a proven ability to work with PHP 7, Laravel 5 (or other MVC frameworks), Composer and version control (preferably Git) and experience of building integrated services within digital ecosystems that serve multiple purposes. We’ll also expect you to be familiar working to SOLID and DRY principles as well as working to PSR when writing code. Proactive, results-driven and comfortable working as part of a team, you’re also creative, innovative and happy to share your expertise with others.
